Stretch Mark Treatment Options
by Anrew Winthorp

Stretch marks are a condition that is reported to affect a high percentage of women. Just what are the common forms of available treatment and remedies?

Laser treatment is a costly option for deeply entrenched stretch marks. This form of treatment does not actually remove the scars; it fades them. It is more effective on scars in the early stage of development that may have a red or brown appearance. Laser treatment focuses on stimulating skin production under the scar tissue to facilitate fibroblast and collagen development. This reduces the redness of skin and changes the skin color pigmentation to more closely resemble the skin color surrounding the stretch marks.

Topical stretch mark creams and lotions are the most common stretch mark remedy. These creams are available over the counter or through prescription medication. Some of these creams use natural ingredients and can aid in prevention or fading of existing stretch marks. Choosing a suitable cream requires due diligence. Not all creams are suitable for pregnant women.

Dermabrasion is a type of surgery that scrapes away the skin with purpose built tool. By removing the skin that has visible stretch marks, new skin is exposed. This is often a repeat procedure and requires the expertise of a suitable qualified professional.

Surgical treatments are another form of treatment. If you have stretch marks below the belly button then having a "tummy tuck" can remove the stretch marks. This option can be costly.

Chemical peels involve the topical application of a base solution to the stretch mark affected area. The stronger the solution the deeper the skin layer that is affected. This form of treatment can vary in severity depending on how deeply entrenched the stretch marks are.

If your not sure which treatment to use then you should consult with personnel who have specialized expertise. Choosing an appropriate form of treatment will depend on your circumstance, the severity of the stretch marks, and how long they have been present for.
