Nutrition During Your Pregnancy
by Victoria Hunter

Knowing what to eat during this precious time is extremely vital. But don't be so over dramatic about what you should and shouldn't eat. There are so many rumors about what you should be eating and some are true and the others are just ridiculous. Everything to not eating spicy foods to not eating fish is a couple of the ridiculous ones. A lot of those rumors also come from the older family members who were banned from doing and eating all kinds of things while they were pregnant back in the day. A lot of things have changed since we have become more educated on being pregnant and doing the right thing.

Having a healthy pregnancy and baby means having a healthy diet. Don't get me wrong, you still can enjoy your favorite foods and snacks. Whenever you have those foods, always think portions. Everything can be good for you in the correct proportions. You can eat sweets, but just not all the time. You are pregnant, so you might just craved ice cream and cookies. If this is the case, go to the grocery store and buy some fat free or even reduce fat ice cream and cookies. There are ways around eating a lot of fatty foods. Something else that has scared a lot of pregnant women is the NO SPICY FOODS rule. My grandmother told me that eating spicy foods can cause your baby to be blind. I'm not going to say that isn't true but I have not heard of a baby being born blind because the mother ate spicy food. Actually, hot peppers of all kinds are loaded with vitamin C and are extremely nutritious. You might have heart burn and indigestion so make sure that your have some Tums or Rolaids.

A wide variety of healthy foods are going to really help you out in your pregnancy. Eating beans, peas, whole grains, low-fat dairy foods, and chicken are going to really fill you up and help your baby be as healthy as possible. Your diet should also consist of an assortment of fruits, vegetables, and a lot of water and milk. Folic acid also plays a very important role in pregnancy. It helps to prevent birth defects of the spine and brain. Foods that have folic acid in them are green leafy vegetables, lentils, oranges, broccoli, beans, peas, peanuts, asparagus, and enriched grain foods. Vitamins are good for you too because they aide in preventing childhood blindness, diabetes, and other sicknesses. The best way to obtain the necessary amount is by take vitamin supplements.

Basically, you know what to eat when you need to eat healthy. There really aren't any foods out there that will seriously harm you or your baby, except sushi. Just make sure that you are eating as healthy as possible. If you have any concerns about whether or not to eat something, call your doctor and ask him or the nurse about it. No question is a crazy question so don't be afraid to ask.
